Welcome to our new news page - this will contain snippets of 'interest' about the club and its members.
- 19th June 2010 - Team England finished 1-2-3(-5) at the Anglo-Celtic Plate 100k Home International 2010 race held at Boddington (Cheltenham). Our George Dayantis was snapping at the heels of the dominant England team despite this being his first attempt at the distance and his first race as an International (and, dare I say it, despite much of the competition being considerably younger).
George managed to convincingly beat all but one from the rest of the world, in a finish time of 7:48:23 (1st V45). His 50k split time of 3:35 was well ahead of his target pace for a 7:30 finish. But the hot, still conditions were far from ideal, causing problems taking on enough energy (around 9000 calories burned!) and fluids while running, without causing too much of a stomach upset in the process. The distance is no longer an unknown to fear and George is already making plans to put his name forward for the England squad for next year.
Congratulations George, we’re really proud of your achievement!
- 9th May 2010 - International Recognition - George Dayantis has been selected to participate in the England team in the Anglo-Celtic Plate 100k Home International 2010. George says "I can now confirm (with joy and trepidation) that I have been selected to be part of the 5-strong team England competing in the Anglo-Celtic plate 100K, an annual event between the home nations: England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland (top 3 to count from each team) taking place in Boddington on 19th of June (England usually wins, so no pressure!). My next ambition, should I perform well, would be to represent team GB in an international meeting of same distance. All to play for!"
